Valorisation, or adding value to a waste stream and essentially turning it into a new product, can become an incredibly important addition to a business’ bottom line if done sustainably and with a long-term perspective.
For 2.5 years, I led WRAP’s food waste valorisation work in Wales across the food and drinks sector, and its bioeconomy support programme in Wales.
In both of these elements, I took on a technical and strategic role in developing tools, reports and webinars, presentation and events as well as dedicated business support, in addition to day-to-day project management.
Projects I led on included adding value to otherwise costly whisky distillery by-products and opening new global markets for dairy by-products as young animal feed.
I also developed a Circular Economy Mapping tool for Wales as well as a first Bioeconomy Report for the country.
